The Affirm™CO2 is a laser anti-aging treatment manufactured by Cynosure.  It  safely and effectively treats wrinkles, sun-damaged skin and overall skin texture.  Below are answers to some of the most common patient questions.
How does it work?
Cosmetic laser treatments reverse the signs of aging and sun-damaged skin by stimulating collagen production and promoting tissue tightening.
Am I a candidate?
If your skin is showing signs of aging, then you are a candidate for laser treatment. Your practitioner can help you determine your specific needs.
Are there any side effects to treatment?
Laser anti-aging treatment should cause only minimal discomfort with a topical anesthetic. Any redness, swelling or puffiness that occurs can be gone within a week, if not a few days.
How many laser anti-aging treatments are required?
Results vary with each case. Patients may require anywhere from two to six treatments to achieve desired results. Each session will last from 30 to 60 minutes.
How long do results last?
Just like the aging process itself, this varies from person to person. However, if you take steps to protect and preserve your freshly laser rejuvenated skin - such as using SPF sunscreen, facial cleansers and creams - the results will last longer.

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
IPL treatments are performed with a non-invasive medical laser that uses intense pulse light.  It is most effective best for treating freckles, sunspots, age spots, and to diffuse redness (rosacea).
What areas can be treated?
Virtually any part of the body with sun spots, age spots or freckles can be safely treated. The face, chest, shoulders and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they typically have the most sun exposure. Both discrete spots and skin densely covered with freckles respond well to treatment.
What do the treatments feel like?
When the hand piece is placed on your skin it will feel cool and comfortable. When the pulse of light is delivered you may feel a mild brief pinching sensation. Unlike other systems the IPL treatments require no topical anesthetic or gels before treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically one to three treatments are sufficient to see dramatic results. Additional treatments may be required for very large or dark spots or for densely covered areas.
What happens after the treatment? Are there any side effects?
Immediately following the treatment the spots may begin to darken. You may notice reddening of the surrounding skin and skin may feel like it has been sunburned. This typically subsides within a couple of hours. Over the course of the next one to three weeks darkened spots will fade and flake off.
Will the spots reappear over time?
If you do not protect your skin with an appropriate skin care routine after your treatment the spots may reappear. Ensure you apply sunscreen with at least an SPF 30 to minimize the likelihood of the spots coming back or of new spots appearing.
