Rosacea is a condition where a history of flushing of the skin occurs often. The red face symptoms are caused by enlarged blood vessels under the skin and gradually the redness becomes permanent. Facial skin becomes dry and pimples may appear. In advanced stages, the nose appears lumpy and swollen from excess tissue. There is no cure, however treatment with oral and topical medications may control rosacea and improve appearance. The most widely prescribed therapy is metronidazole and antibacterial medications such as tetracycline. A fine electric needle or an IPL (Intense Pulse Light) may also be used to eliminate enlarged blood vessels and decrease overall redness. |
